Controller and contact

Kaldric Chess is operated by Victor Simion, based in Romania, who is responsible for the processing described in this notice. For privacy questions or requests, email kaldricchess@gmail.com. No data protection officer has been appointed because one is not required for this activity.

What information is processed

Kaldric Chess may process the following categories of information:

• Local chess data: saved or unfinished games, imported PGNs, Game Review sessions, Road progress, mastery history, local profiles, and preferences.
• Technical delivery data: IP address, request time, requested page, browser/device information, and security signals handled when the site is delivered.
• Optional analytics data: page views, feature interactions, approximate location, browser/device information, and online identifiers generated by Google Analytics.
• Tablebase requests: the chess position and ordinary connection data when an endgame position is sent to the Lichess tablebase service.
• Chess.com placement and Player Profile: if you enter a public Chess.com username, Kaldric may retrieve that account's public rating data and recent public games from the Chess.com Public API. Selected positions are analyzed locally with Stockfish to estimate a starting milestone and skill profile. No Chess.com password or private account access is requested.
• Fresh training-position requests: after you complete most of a Road pool, Kaldric may also retrieve public games and ratings from the Chess.com Public API to prepare additional practice positions; Chess.com receives ordinary connection data when your browser makes the request.
• Messages: your email address, message, and any information you choose to include when you contact Kaldric Chess.

Local chess data remains in your browser and is not normally available to Kaldric Chess. Please do not include sensitive personal information in profile names, PGNs, or emails.

Purposes and legal bases

• Provide requested chess features: browser storage and local Stockfish are used to operate the tools you choose to use.
• Provide Chess.com placement and a Player Profile: when you submit a public username, public rating/game data is retrieved and selected decisions are analyzed locally to estimate skill levels.
• Provide fresh Road practice: public game data may be retrieved and analyzed locally to prepare additional milestone positions after most of the built-in pool has been completed.
• Deliver and secure the site: technical data is processed for the legitimate interests of providing a reliable service, preventing abuse, and maintaining security (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Understand product use: Google Analytics is used only with your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Refusing it does not limit the chess tools.
• Answer messages: contact information is processed to respond to your request and for the legitimate interest of managing correspondence (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Chess analysis and browser storage

Stockfish runs locally in your browser. Kaldric Chess does not upload your PGN or complete game analysis to its own server. Browser storage remembers local chess data and your analytics choice until you delete it through the product or clear the site's browser data.

For supported endgames, Kaldric may send the current position to the Lichess tablebase service. If that service is unavailable, local Stockfish may be used instead.

If you use Chess.com placement, Kaldric stores the resulting placement and Player Profile in your browser profile. The sampled game positions are analyzed locally with Stockfish and are not uploaded to a Kaldric server. Clearing the site's browser data removes that locally saved profile.

After most built-in positions in a Road skill have been completed, Kaldric may use the Chess.com Public API to prepare a fresh practice set from public games. The resulting set is analyzed and stored in your browser; it is not added to a Kaldric account or global user profile.

Optional analytics

Google Analytics is not loaded until you select Allow analytics. Kaldric does not intentionally send Chess.com usernames, PGN text, chess positions, saved games, local profile names, or email content to Analytics. Advertising storage, Google Signals, and ad personalization are disabled.

After consent, Google Analytics may use the first-party cookies _ga and _ga_<container-id> to distinguish users and preserve session state. Under Google's default configuration, each may remain for up to two years and may be refreshed on later visits. See Google's cookie documentation.

You may decline or withdraw consent at any time using Analytics settings. Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal. Analytics cookies are removed where the browser allows it, although aggregated statistics already created may remain.

Recipients and international transfers

Information may be handled by the following service providers or independent services:

• Cloudflare, for hosting, content delivery, and security — privacy policy.
• Google, for consent-based Analytics and for email correspondence through Gmail — privacy policy.
• Lichess, when the tablebase service receives an endgame position — privacy policy.
• Chess.com, when its Public API supplies public rating/game data for placement, Player Profile, or fresh Road positions — privacy policy.

These providers may process information outside the European Economic Area. Where required, transfers are covered by applicable adequacy decisions, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where available, and/or contractual safeguards used by the provider. Kaldric Chess does not sell personal information.

How long information is kept

• Local chess data and the consent choice remain on your device until you delete or reset them.
• Chess.com placement and Player Profile results remain in browser storage until replaced, deleted, or you clear the site's browser data.
• Fresh Road position sets remain in browser storage until replaced, the Road dataset changes, or you clear the site's browser data.
• Google Analytics user- and event-level data is subject to the property's retention setting and is not retained there for more than 14 months; aggregated reports may remain longer.
• Messages are normally kept only while needed to answer and manage the request, then deleted or archived when no longer necessary, unless a longer period is required to establish or defend legal claims.
• Cloudflare, Lichess, and Chess.com retain technical data according to their own policies and operational security needs; Kaldric Chess does not control those independent retention periods.

Your GDPR rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time. Requests can be sent to kaldricchess@gmail.com and will normally be answered within one month.

Because most chess data exists only on your device and no account is required, Kaldric Chess may not possess or be able to identify that data. You can delete it directly through your browser's site-data controls.

Complaints, children, and required information

You may lodge a complaint with the Romanian National Supervisory Authority for Personal Data Processing (ANSPDCP) through its complaints page, or with the authority in your country of residence.

Providing personal data is not a statutory or contractual requirement. Analytics is optional. Kaldric Chess does not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects through automated processing. Users under 16 should not allow Analytics without authorization from a parent or legal guardian.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as Kaldric Chess adds features or changes providers. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
